Diy needs a show based on creative budget saving building projects that won't come at the expense of quality or high design.

Some examples:

- pour your own concrete countertop kits($80 vs. $3000-$6000 for pre-made countertops)

- refacing existing cabinets (saving thousands over replacing cabinets)

- carpet tiles

- foam formed moulding/polyurethane based decorative accents

- pre-cut granite countertops/granite overlay countertops

- prefab homes, cargo container homes , yurt homes

- rammed earth construction/cob construction

- shopping for materials at salvage centers

- faux painting wood grain techniques

- living off the grid/green conversions

The show can have pop ups displaying the cost/how much we're saving with each project with the grand total saved for the entire remodel at the end. Diy has shows like 'I Hate My Kitchen' that sometimes mention ways to save money but there aren't any shows that are strictly based on the subject that I know many would benefit from.

HGTV had something called 'Beyond the Box' that was about this topic but it's no longer on the air. Check it out here http://www.hgtv.com/beyond-the-box/show/index.html . It was like the 'High Low Project' hosted by Sabrina Soto but based more around building than interior design. Another show called 'World's Most Extreme Homes' also displayed unique living arrangements sometimes at very low cost.

I feel this show would be a can't miss because who doesn't want to save a ton of money while looking like they spent a fortune?

Some of us from the "Dream Home" blogs giveaways wonder if a contest for a prefab home might not gain attention for both consumers and the industry. For example Irontown Homes in Utah has some really great models of prefab homes. We would love to see one being assembled on DIY or HGTV- maybe both a joint project!
