I agree with trying to recycle some of the cabinets that I have seen on House Crashers and Bath Crashers. There are places like Habitat for Humanity Restore or other charities that would gladly come and pick up cabinets and appliances if removed carefully. Maybe it doesn't make exciting TV, but the dollars that go come out of the sale of this equipment can go along way in giving someone a hand up, not ahand out. Please consider looking at this as an option on at least one episode to see how it is received.
I am totally appaled by the wanton waste and destruction of good and reuseable materials by the hosts of the "crasher" shows. The cabinets, lumber, appliances, floor coverings, fixtures, etc. that are just discarded, are useable products to many. These shows are antithetical to the present "green" climate, and to the good old conservative values that have been serving this country for many, many years.
Shame on you all! Waste not, want not!
Easy to jump on the greenie bandwagon.
Truth of the matter is that much of the stuff removed is old, damaged and not fit for reuse. These blanket statements that "places like Habitat will be glad to take these items" sound very nice to say but are far from the truth. Reality is that Habitat or others will come by, and they will take stuff - maybe 10% to 20% of what's there. The rest is not good enough, or they already have too many of them, or it's so out of style that even the freebie places don't want it.
Further reality is that it costs more time to remove something to preserve it. More time = more money. On a TV show, more time = lots and lots of more money. So go ahead and criticize a show for not spending thousands of dollars extra so that everything can be thrown away anyway.
I know this is sounding harsh but I am getting over this critical attitude. Look at it this way: Are YOU willing to send in the several hundreds of dollars to possibly thousands of dollars that it will cost to save this almost worthless stuff? Yes? Then I applaud your efforts (and would like to know how to get in touch with you). But if you are not willing to pay the price then please don't expect me or a TV show to pay either - you are no better than them.
