I am a fan of DIY. However, even the shows about "tiny rooms" are not really about tiny rooms - not like my tiny rooms. I live in an 850 sq. ft home built in 1940. My kitchen is 11x5 ft with 3 openings. The layout is so crazy. I have never seen anything on homeshows to address it. With all the talent out there in design and remodeling, and the trend towards 'really tiny' homes and lessening your eco-footprint, why doesn't DIY do a show on design and maximizing function in truly small spaces?

Because you can't show it.
There are minimum size requirements to shoot a TV show in a room. You have a host or two, a homeowner or two and at least two camera people. Imagine fitting six people in your 11 x 5 kitchen. Now put cameras into the hands of two of them. Now have them be positioned so that they can see everything that's going on from multiple angles.
The only way you could make a TV show about a kitchen your size would be to make a set of your kitchen and shoot it in a studio. Reality TV may not be totally real but at least it does take place in real homes. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jaybee,

HeyYouJess
I would love to see more devoted to smaller homes. There are some nice blogs out there that talk about it, but you're right, Jaybee, you just can't film in a place like that. It's gotta be still shots.
JamieMc, I would love to see a picture of your kitchen layout - I'm struggling with designing my kitchen right now, and the layout's very difficult.
