OK you Deck Pro's, starting a new project and I am in the planning stage. Steer me in right direction, please.
Home in No. California, Hard soil on North side of house. Flat, slight grade away from house, but house is a Slab home, so flooring of bedroom is only about 8 inches above the level of the back yard. I plan to replace bedroom window with a French Door opening onto deck with a hottub.
Now I would prefer to have the hot tub recessed into the deck about 24" so that only 10-12" protrude above deck level, but with house flooring height I would either have to build the deck higher than ground level and build steps up to it from the bedroom or excavate a hole for the spa to sit into.
If I excavate, should I dig a space for the pad of the spa + area for acces to controls of spa, or excavate a larger area for the footings of the whole deck? I plan to build a deck that is total size of 18' x 15'.
Other thought is how do I control water runoff issues if I excavate.
Well that should be good for now, as if that is not enough. I am sure that this issue has been covered before, but not to the specific of these parameters.
first i am not a professional deck person, i am a plumber, and i stick my nose into others business. LOL..i would recess the fub.pour a hole big bigger than the tub, on one side for access to motor and controls, alsp build a 2x2x2 ft pit, for a small sunp pump with a float, pump needs to be a 3 switch type [1] main pump [2] secondary [3] alarm high water hooked to a bell, horn.or flashing light
