They said on this show that Jason used a primer/paint combination on the aluminum siding. Does anyone know a brand and kind of paint he used? Was it acrylic, latex, oil based?
Most DIY web sites like this often list products used in their show under Resources which is often found at the bottom of the last page of that shows episode. It just so happens they list the paint used that you wanted more info about.
Premium Plus Ultra paint Behr
You'll need to check more fully to determine the type that it is but it should not be too difficult.
Good Luck!

most quality paints can be self-priming over a sound, well-prepared surface... if what you would be priming for is reasonable adhesion under average surfaces, and color hiding over a similar color.
otherwise, figure on getting that surface well-prepared, and put on a quality well-bodied primer compatible with your topcoat.
ask your paint desk pro. if they scratch their head and mutter instead of asking you the right kind of questions, that's not a pro at the paint desk. you might be well advised to seek one at a paint-only store of good reputation.
sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?
