I have a friend who recently bought an old "porch swing", and wants me to put it up in her backyard. She specifically wants it installed without using 'A-frames' to hold it up. She wants a single post on both sides, and a crossbar on top. I told her this may be difficult, because the weight of the swing, plus 2 people, may make the posts work loose and sway.
What is the most efficient way to accomplish this without the sway? Larger posts? A-type supports at the bottom of the posts? Need a lot of feedback/opinions on this, please. Thanks! This message has been edited. Last edited by: McDaddio,
It can be done with single posts as long as the posts are large enough and are set in the ground deep enough to be secure. Depth will vary depending on ground type but for strength, 6x6's should work fine for the posts.
Securely bolt the top beam to the posts or notch them to fit together.
