We have a 5 year old 10'X12' wood deck that sits over a 3' wide pathway for run-off water. The underside of some of the PT boards are softening a bit, so I'm wondering how to handle this. Re-routing the water run-off isn't an option. During the dry season could I use marine paint on the bottom of the boards? Or maybe some better ideas? Thanks all,
With a constant supply of moisture trapped under the decking, it is only a matter of time before you have to replace the decking. No paint or sealer will stand up to that kind of abuse.
There is a simple solution though - Go ahead and replace the decking and use a composite decking instead. A little costly up front, but short of not having a deck there at all about the only thing that will work.
