I have a doggie door and no dog. The door creates a lot of air flow and I would like to close it. The only thing that has slowed me down is my house has asbestos shingle siding. I don't have any spare shingles to cover the hole and I don't want to hire a contractor to come in and do such a small project that I could so easily handle my self. Any suggestions for covering the hole without it being a real eye sore?
Thanks

We have one in our three season porch wall that is normally not in use. (want more control over when and how the dogs go in and out)

I put a rectangular piece of two inch thick, closed cell insulation foam board in between the flap and the inside "close off board" (inside it is held with clips) With some weather stripping around the outside of the foam, it makes it fairly weather tight.

Just by adding a framed piece of exterior siding or ply placed over the opening (painted to match your exterior) may be enough to disguise the door from the outside. Same on the inside? That way should you or someone else want to again use it, it would be available?

James Hardee makes cement board siding panels that matches the old asbestos, then you could repair this for good and have no scabed on repairs.

Since you just want to stop the drafts leaking through the unused door, the styrofoam panel cut to fit sounds best. I'd might like to either caulk the edges to make the fit airtight or use foam in a can to make the same seal. I think the caulk would be less messy than the foam in a can.
