I live in Texas. I was wondering, is there any kind of license or degree I have to have to do concrete work for other people as jobs? I can't find anything about it anywhere else.

The rules vary from state to state. Most require some licensing for any kind of home improvement job, also proof of insurance etc. The rules are set up so there is some accountability.

Easiest way to get a definitive answer is to talk to your local code department.

        Brooke:

Maybe just look under "Concrete" in your yellow pages phone directory and see if any of the quarter, half or full page ads there claim that the contractor is a member of the "Texas Concrete Contractors Association" or anything like that.

Google that association name (cuz they probably have a web site) and speak to someone there about the requirements of starting your own business. Almost certainly the head of any such association will be the owner and/or general manager of one of the concrete contracting companies in Texas.

States also license certain types of contractors as well as realtors and nonbuilding businesses.

Check out the Texas State site and look for licensing departments.
