Hi all,
I was hoping someone could answer this question.

I want to run power from the house (breaker box) to a light outside. It will be underground, running through pvc conduit. DO I need to use UF wire or is regular NM-b safe to use since it's enclosed in the conduit.

thanks in advance,
Don

If you are running conduit, you can use the regular wire. You can direct bury uf and save on the conduit if you want.

You won't know if you can do something if you don't try.

thanks, that's what I thought. I'm thinking I want to run the conduit to keep myself (or someone else) from digging into it in the future. not to mention I have hundreds of feet of regular wire.

thanks again

that's a plan. you could even put pea gravel for an inch or two over the conduit, for a warning layer in case you get the itch to dig a garden later.

when I ran another conduit to the shed for phone and internet, I also dropped rebar alongside the PVC conduit. should help finding it later with a metal detector. and I was being hassled to get the rebar out of the way.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

The wire also needs to be at least 18" below the ground.

You can not run mn-b outside in conduit. It needs to be uf or thwn wires.

Turn's out after some googling, Jbfan's correct, you can't run NM in wet locations conduit or not.

thanks!
