Fall is here in the south so I set my programmable thermostat to System Off, no more need for AC. The condenser fan outside kept running, so I tripped the breaker to stop it,is this something I can fix myself or do I need to call in outside help?
probably a welded relay in the control unit. if it's a plug in or wire in, no problem changing it. if it's soldered onto the controller's circuit board, problem.
if there is a plastic goo over the circuit board, which is quite likely, very big problem, probably require replacement of the controller board. weather-proofing the board with spray-on silicone is common and the devil to work with in repair.
you could try to dissolve it out with methylene chloride. but that will also eat up a lot of parts and delaminate the circuit board. Unisys used it to dissolve chips to see damage in the actual silicon in their QC department.
so if the board is potted, best to replace it.
