Deck with many levels Sign In/Join
        posted
Does anyone have any experience building or own a deck with many levels (platforms) connected together.
I'm unsure about the configuration and placement of the piers, girders and joists when connecting many platforms of different heights.
I've build decks before but none having different levels.
I just want to view some drawings/plans/ pictures showing how it should go together (a view from underneath the deck would be great).
the web has multi level deck plans for sale but they are specific for a particulat deck design they are trying to sell.
I just want a general understanding of how to build any multi level deck.
The area where the free standing decks are connected is where I'm having trouble picturing the layout of the framing members.
        Thanks.
p.s. I also posted this on outdoor projects b/c I was not sure what catagory decks fall into.

boxes on boxes. if they are going to be accessable to each other, the framing needs to be connected. use shared piers at the junctions, and to be really secure, bring the beams underneath the upper section and tie to additional piers.

another way to say it is the higher boxes also rest on the lower boxes for a distance.

in my part of the country with frost down to 5 feet, this means sinking a LOT of sonotubes.
