A/C Repairs can be expensive, and they can be repetitive. Air Conditioning units are machines and machines have a definite life expectancy. Wear and tear from operation under adverse conditions such as high ambient temperatures, dirty power supply, and transient voltage spikes from lightning storms and power company equipment failures can dramatically shorten the life of you’re A/C unit, by causing damage to components and pushing the cost toward economic obsolescence.
Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. If something goes terribly wrong with my air conditioner, there is a fat chance that I will not be able to detect where exactly the fault lies. This is simply because I do not have the adequate know-how that is required to repair and maintain the machine and I rather prefer to hire professional.
