adding a bay window hip roof to an unlevel home w/ a level bay window boxGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
Hello, I have a dilemma concerning a hip roof over a bay window I am building. The home; siding, facia, and brick are unlevel by 9/16". The bay window and box are plumb. Should I discard plumb and build the roof unlevel to match the facia, siding, and brick. keep it level to match the bay window and box. Maybe, keep the bay top plate level with the bay window box and adjust the rafter tops to the house's fricken' unlevelitudenationilness, or some other suggestion? much confusion here. Thank you immensely for your help!

In a situation like that, which is very common, go by the rule "if if looks level, it's level." You can hide the discrepancy wherever it's easiest. Just try to keep lines parallel by eye. An eighth here, and eighth there, no one will see it. Hope that helps! DigiConSoo
