I put down a new tile floor in the my hall. It meet the linoleum floor in the kitchen. Now both rooms share part of the same wall. How do I get the molding to line up between these 2 floors. The tile floor is about 1/2 inch higher then the linoleum. There was carpet in the hall before and the contractor just cut the molding to get it lined up. But the next section he jammed into the carper more to get lined up.

IMO the best solution is to take off a portion of the base on the bottom. This will not change it being level at the top. For instance you say 1/2" then you will take 1/2" off the bottom. But in doing so it will have to be done for the entire tile wall not just at the intersection with the linoleum. Does it continue and stop(dead end) at a door? If it continues until it meets another elevation change then just the portion that is too high needs to be address meaning taking it out of the center.

redoverfarm is right, just cut down the base on the taller floor to make a match in height. You don't always have to cut down the entire room though. 1/2" is such a small amount that you only notice the difference if the two different heights are touching. If the trim hits a doorway, you can probably get away with not cutting the base on the far side of the doorway as the height change will not be noticed.

I hate the fact I have to cut all that molding but it looks like I have no choice. Thanks!

Jaybee the only problem not seeing the room is if the base does not terminate at a doorway and continues around a room then all pieces from that transition will have to be adjusted. I guess the OP will consider that as well.
