Putting a metal roof on my dock, what are the best screws to use? The grapevine stated that there are some with a washer that last only 10 years (wash breaks down in the sun). Thank you for your assistance.

I seriously doubt that the washers are breaking down because of exposure to the elements. The major cause is overtightening to where the washer splits. Metal roofing screws have been used for decades with no problem in that respect. The only way to get away from them or washered nails is to go with a hidden fastner and standing seam metal.

I added a metal roof to my cabin and used a different head type which is perfect for my area. The screws do not have the regular hex head but are tapered with a torx recessed head. They do not catch debri such as pine needles and leaves as bad.

They do cost just a little more than the regular but IMO are worth the extra cost.
