the master bathroom 60"x60" it has a plastic type shower bath combo in it and and a toilet. the bath/shower combo is 30"x60". the door if i took off the frame is 24" wide. Does anyone know the easiest way to get the old tub out and a new tub in w/o taking down a wall?

yes...the combo kit can be taken down and walked right out the door, when you turn the unit side ways it will fit out the door, the tub is only abot 20" inc tall. and a tub will come in the same way, just turn it on its side
the existing tub will need to come out of the whole, with the head of the tub coming straight up.then it will be twisted, and come out the door on its side, to install a tub in the room that is only 60 inchs wide, the tub will ned to go back the same way. easy...
will you be doing this work your self?
good luck with your project

Steve is right, most likly the home was built around the tub and walls put in long after the tub was in place.
Cut with a sawsall to take it out. If it's being replace just buy a two piece unit to get one back in.
It really should be code to make all main entrence and bathroom door 36" wide.
Lots of people have to move out of there old homes simple because they can not get into the house or bathroom as they get older.

There is about 1 to 2 inches behind the wall on the surround and 2x4 behind everything.

Takes a saws all and slaughter the old shower into small pieces and take it out. NO MERCY! Then buy a new shower that comes in 2-3 parts that you can install without ripping out any walls. Any local building warehouse will carry the 2-3 part showers.
