Oh I forgot, lent my brand new pressure washer to a so called friend and he let it run out of oil and brought it back siezed up and out of gas, lent my slidding cutter for coil stock to my next door contractor and I found it laying in a puddle of mud the next day outside his house. He also used my brand new still in the package carbide 4" hole saw and arbor, #1 he tryed to cut through brick with it, #2 he tightened the arbor up tight to the saw instead to setting the two pins that hold it from spinning. I had to throw the whole thing away and he never offered to pay for any of it. Not bad enough, he took without asking my battery charger and my lawn roller. I found them when his wife was mowing the lawn with the roller still attached because she did not know were it came from and did not know how to unhook it. I never did see the charger again. I know he has it because he asked to borrow it to get his back hoe started and I said no. I came home from work and the back hoe and my charger were gone.

Joe, I need to cut some long case-hard concrete nails with your wood chisels. will you accept the Brooklyn Bridge as security? just had it striped, and it was plowed twice last year :-D
seriously, you've had a bad run of luck. going to take a couple lottery wins to catch up. sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money? |

tstex, couldn't agree more; we'll keep the iron hot and work out all the details. We've got some hurdles to tackle and we are committed to making it work.
Some folks shared some seriously scary stories here. While your personal experience with friends and neighbors may not always be favorable I believe an organized business exchange will have better results. Stolen tools will be replaced and broken tools repaired. I understand the personal connection folks feel with their tools. I'm wondering what would cause a transition to viewing your tools as an asset to earn money? What if you bought a new mitre saw, would you rent your old one? Does anyone have any input on the renter side? Would you RENT tools from an another individual; 1/2 price for twice as long as a traditional rental stores? |

Based on your business model descriptions, yes, I would. Many of the posters in this thread appear to be more involved in projects than typical DIYers (i.e. semi-professionals or professionals). To me, renting that pressure washer, hammer drill, or flooring nailer for a weekend or a week would be enticing, and I would certainly look up ToolSpinner the next time I need a tool I don't own. |

Thanks JKeefe, as we refine our business model we are finding that professional who use their tool for a primary source of income are less likely to participate than the casual weekend DIYer. Thanks for the vote of confidence. If you haven't already take a second to sign up at our website to be notified of our launch.
Thanks again everyone. Dan |
