I have installed closet doors that are four or five inches to short on each side. What can I do to fill in the space on each side other than taking them back. Bought at a going out of business sale.
You don't state what they are made from or what type of door you have. You could buy some 2x4 number 1 pine and rip it in half or to the thickness of the of the door. Then using biscuits, glue, and clamps attach a couple of pieces to each edge. Then sand and use a quality primer then a couple of finish coats.
One of the many cases where a free or cheap item cost more then if you just bought the right one. The whole door frame needs to be reframed, as well as well as sheetrock added.
