We recently watched a show on DIY that showed some kind of material that you put over your existing laminate counter tops! Has anyone ever seen this before and if so, where can we find it.

I think that you might be referring to this product, which is granite composite and in most situations can be placed over your existing counter top. It's been advertised a lot lately.

I watched a program on HGTV today, for the life of me I can't remember the name of the show. It was one that does remodeling on a very thin dime. They remodeled this young guy's kitchen. Holy Cow!!! He originally had a laminate countertop. Well....after roughing up the surface, they troweled epoxy grout all over the top, used a board to screed it out to be some what flat and level and then after it cured, they sanded it out to be somewhat smooth and sealed it!!! They used light diffuser panels for large fluorescent light fixtures, painted them and then used silicone caulk to attach them to the walls and this was his backsplash! I was aghast and amazed. I could not believe this.

I hope this isn't what you are asking about.

Oh TQ, I agree with you! I saw that program and was wowed...but all for the wrong reasons.

Some of those shows do some seriously questionable things, like painting over wallpaper (nothing worse in my book) and ignoring code in their efforts to save money.

I was horrified last week while watching Desperate Landscapes. They wedged in three front porch supports without bolting the posts into the concrete floor. That's against code just about anywhere and completely unsafe!
