I have loose screws on my hinges (door frame side)

I read somewhere that a 2 1/2" long screw, one per hinge, through the frame and into the rough opening frame is a good fix. Balance of the screws would be nominal length. Match sticks probably the best fillers for the nominal screws.

Any advice would be helpful.

that works, but go ahead and put athe long screw in the hinge
1 at the top and 1 at the bottom
i would predrill, so you don't split the wood
and then rub a little soap on the threads.
the screw will go in easier
