I have a Hitachi C12RSH sliding compound miter saw. If I lock the saw table at 0 degrees (for straight cuts), place a square against the fence, then turn on the laser guide, I see a gap of about 1/8” between the laser line and the square at the fence. That gap tapers to 0” about 12” down the square. So, the guide (and, thus, the blade) is not perpendicular to the fence. I find it hard to believe this is a manufacturing defect; however, I find nothing in the manual that indicates I can fix this with an adjustment. Any ideas?

Most are adjustable but each manufacturer will have a different. If your manual doesn't show you haw to adjust, try searching on-line for a more detailed set of instructions.

It's also possible that the laser is off. Try a few test cuts to see if the blade really out of align.

I would first drop the blade and check to see if the fence is out of square w/ the blade. If it is not it is the laser adjustment. If you look on page 12, Fig 2 of the manuel it shows the location of the laser adjustment. Pages 22 & 23 show the laser adjustment procedure.

I believe that page # 19 deals with adjustments of the fence.
