In continued planning and work on basement I have chosen to put egress window in since it would costlier to add later when basement is finished. It appears I can put one in front where I have decent distance between grade and first floor thereby eliminating need to dig window well and equip with proper drainage...
Any opinions on/or advice with brands or experience with this subject. I have checked code and am up to speed on that. Just trying to track down quality window that will never be a problem.
Surely must be reader on here somewhere with experience in this sort of thing???? Any tips or advice welcome.
Sorry nothing to recommend other than I'd go with a non-wood frame for the window. Do you have room to go with an outswinging casement window? That gives you the largest opening for egress in a given window size.
Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.
My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Yes I do, I have 40+ inches above grade to fit this without having to do window well. To achieve the required 44 inch distance off floor in basement I could add a sturdy built in storage bench below the window which I was told by county should be sufficient.
Sounds like you have your plan well though out and getting approval with local code officials is paramount as well.
Can not recommend a specific brand of egress window but have you thought about matching the style and make presently installed ?
Popeye only reached for the Spinach can as a last resort...
hundreds of window manufacturers. ask around your area, a local plant that makes good stuff can be significantly cheaper than the national big 4 (anderson, marvin, pella, jeld-wen.)
sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?
