Garage Locked Out

Last week my garage remote was stolen. I erased all of the memory and have the new one set up. Unfortunately I have the new remote in my car which is in the garage. For whatever reason, when I left the back of the garage, the door had the child lock or the locked out button pressed. I tried to open the back door with my keys but remembered about the lock out. What to do?

Again, the keypad on the front garage door wasn't programmed after the erase (Genie).

The backdoor I won't be able to get in since it has that lock out.

No other remote available.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

In reading your post I'm a little confused. The car is stuck inside the garage and you can't get to it right? The keypad wasn't reprogrammed yet, and when you erased the codes for you old remote it cleared the link to your keypad outside the garage.

Is this child lock on the side door to your garage? What kind of child lock is it? Is there a dead bolt on the garage door? Is there a window into the garage, not a window in the door but an actual double hung window?

If there is a window, jimmying it will likely be the easiest way to get into your garage.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Locksmith can get by the lock-out on the door.

I got in. It's a two car garage, with each side with it's own door. It's divided in half, but the top isn't finished. Luckily I climbed over and got in.

I bought an additional garage remote. I was trying to reprogram the keypad, but it wasnt working. I probably need new batteries.

Yes the lock is one of those "privacy" locks. It's an older lock.

Thank you all!
