IndianaGuyTable Saw Dust Collection
I just bought a Bosch GTS 1031 table saw. The dust port is 2 1/4"; so I would need to find an adapter to fit my standard ShopVac. I was wondering if I could just tape a garbage bag over that dust port. Is there any reason for NOT doing that?

I doubt it would work, vacuum bags breath, they are made of filter paper. Plastic bags pressurize and once they do pressurize nothing much will go into them.

swschradshould be a PVC plumbing reducer fitting you can slide over the collector, and plug into the vac hose. this is the smallest size of dust collector material, and typically you would use a flex hose to a "blast gate" shutoff valve on the wall, thence rigid PVC to a dedicated dust collector unit.
these real parts are sold at Rockler stores and many places online. a serious standalone tool store will also have them. you can fake it with plumbing parts.

IndianaGuyThanks very much for the advice. I want to update this because, as I look at reviews for different adapters, it's obvious that many people purchase adapters that don't work because the adapter is exactly the same size as the port or vacuum hose. I ordered the following item from Rockler: Shop Vac Dust Fitting Adapter for 1-1/4'' to 2-1/4'' Diameter Hose (item #26967) for $5 (plus $8 shipping). It does work with the Bosch GTS1031. The larger end fits into the Bosch dust port and my Shop Vac 250 hose fits into the smaller end of the adapter. So, maybe that will save someone some aggravation. Thanks, again, for the help.
