I want to tile my kitchen floor. Right now there is linoleum on the floor. Can I put tiles on top of the linoleum? If the linoleum can stay, do I just install the tile as if it was on concrete?
Do you want to make this project a lasting installation and follow the industry recommendations or do you simply want to take the least expensive path of least reisitance?
Putting real tile over the linoleum will also raise the floor quite a bit. After you remove the linoleum and its underlayment you will decrease the total rise in floor height a bit but it will still be higher than now.
For best results...since you are using nice tile...go for a long lasting result and strip the floor down to the subfloor...then built up on that...reinforce etc as needed.
