I have a room under my front porch. The porch is a concrete slab on top of block. there is a door in the basement leading to this room. Room is very damp and the slab leaks when it rains. My idea is to remove the door and block the doorway in with cinder blocks essentially eliminating the room.the porch needs replaced so I wanted to demolish it and build a wooden deck.does this sound like something that would be feasible to do? would I need to fill in the whole room with dirt or would just putting the remnants of the old porch down there be ok with the deck over it. Or am I just creating a huge bath tub? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Tdp378,
I know why you want to do it, every single one of areas under a deck I've ever seen leak, just a poor design idea.
Little more to it the stacking some block to form a wall.
The blocks that's there now is going to need toothed. Which is removing the 1/2 blocks that are there now so the blocks can be interlocked. (staggered)
Once the walls up, the outside needs to water proofed.
You do not want any of that hard back fill up against the foundation, it needs to be kept back from it.
Good time to consider adding a French drain.
