Our rental house has a pneumatic door closer that will only let the door go part way open. It doesn't open to a 90 degree angle. I have checked the door closer, and it seems to be in good working order. However, the last owners evidentally pulled the screws and part of the wood out of the door frame with the door closer. They repaired the damage by nailing a cut off 2 x 4 to the door frame in order to attach the side of the door closer that screws into the frame. Can this be why the door will not open completely? Is there some wood bonding material that I can use to repair the door frame if I take off the 2 x 4? Or do I need to repair it some other way?

Can you tell me what brand and model number it is? Different brands of closers can install and operate differently. Is it possible to send a picture?

Yes, a picture would be worth a thousand words in this case. Confused But since it's a rental house why don't you have the landlord take care of it? Unless of course you are the landlord. Smile I'm not sure if you are the renter or the rentee ! When the door opens does the barrel of the door opener hit the 2 x 4?
If so that is what's keeping the door from opening all the way.
