I seriously doubt that a DIY or HGTV show is going to come and help you out with a yard crash or desperate yard makeover. As they say on the various crasher shows it is like winning the home improvement lottery and your chances are close to zero of winning.

That said if you are reasonably fit you can DIY a lot of the work. The key is to have a plan. Many garden shops will work up a plan some free some relatively inexpensive. A landscape architect can come up with a more elaborate plan that won't be free and some of the work (hardscapes, fountains, etc) may be beyond your ability to DIY. If you have the budget, hire it out and get it all done at once, if not tackle it in logical phases over a couple of summers.

I'd start with a scale drawing of your yard, some pictures from all angles and then a visit to a garden shop with staff designers.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I can help with general information, but I need more from you than what your picture showed. Things you need to disclose are......what you plan on using the yard for, the size and what equipment you already have. Your year round climate would be helpful as well.

That picture looks like a setting from an eerie ghost story! (kidding) I think what you need is to do nice landscaping with nice flowers, ferns, rocks or even a fountain... Most of all I believe you need a nice fence to keep any wild animals or even unwanted persons to keep coming in your backyard. A lovely fence will make a big difference. You may check out Consolidated Fence company, here is their link just in case: http://www.consolidatedfencecompany.com/ Cool

Charissemoore,
Have you made any progress on your project?

I'm bumping this up to bury some spam, but would like to know if you've made progress.
