I have a daylight basement with heater ducting aound the ceiling. I want to hang a chained swag lamp (with outlet plug - not hard wired); any recommendations as to how to install hooks into the ducting? The lamp weighs about 8 pounds.

        Thank you.

I would not penetrate the duct with any type of fastner. There is always a possibility that the light could develope a short as well as other problems. Instead I would bridge the duct with a piece of metal from joist to joist and hang the light from that. Most big box stores sell angle iron or flat plate that can be used. You could even use a 2X4 or 2X2 wooden block in the same fashion.

Or just screw a hanging hook directly into the underside of a joist.
