The 54 yr old tile in my dad's bathroom is in great shape, even a "glaze" shiney surface. IF I decided to color most of the tile, does painting or recoloring work, last very long, etc.?? I had a tub resurfaced 22 yrs ago, it still looks good. Also, does painting the tiles paint over the grout in between? There are small dominoe type floor tiles, I figure they are too small to pain without losing the TWO colors they are in.Basicly, I want to keep the old tile, but revitalize, update it. The grout could use re application, but not bad. Your experience and answeres would help a lot! Thanks.
Paint does not stick well to tile. You will be dissapointed with the result. The glaze is the reason while. I would not touch it until you are ready to replace it. good luck.
You won't know if you can do something if you don't try.
The reason the reglazing held up on your tub is because it was washed with acid to remove the old glazing so the new finish had something to stick to. Painted tile, looks like painted tile and then the grout lines are going to look the same color as the tiles and look like that cheap tile board.
