Our toilet doesn't flush properly, unless we hold the handle down for about 4-5 seconds. We've adjusted the chain that closes the flapper, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there something else we can do, so that one quick flush will do it?
Thanks!

If you have tried adjusting the chain and that doesn't help, then I would suggest trying a fluid master 555C flusher fixer kit. It contains a "timing cup "that controls how long the flopper stays open. They cost about seven dollars at Home Depot or Lowe's. You can check it out at www.fluidmaster.com

big dog..forget buying repair parts, just get a new fluid master for about 10 bucks.
they are easy to switch out
[1] turn off water
[2] flush toilet, then put a sponge or rag in
the tank, to get remaining water out
[3] unhook water line from bottom of tank
[4] loosen nut, on bottom of tank, pull old
valve out
[5] install new valve, and hook up the little
tube on the over flow
[6] hook up water line, turn water on
[7] adjust water height, as per instructions
[8] check it out

Hi Frodo if you look at the original post big dog seems to have a problem with the flushing not the filling of the tank. Unless the tank is not filling enough, then changing the fill valve will do nothing to solve his problem. If the tank is not filling to the fill line than another thought is he may be able to adjust his original fill valve to solve this problem. By the way the flusher fixer kit really isn't a repair part (anymore than the fill valve assembly is) as it contains a new flapper, seat and timing cup that controls how long the flapper stays open.
