I bought a granite countertop from Menards, my third. The countertop is supposed to allow for side faucets or a single center faucet. The other two countertops each had three holes tapped. This one had only the two side holes tapped. The center hole was partially cut from the underside. A label on top said "tap here." I assume they mean "rent a grinder if you don't have one and complete this hole"? Or..."take a hammer and whack at this point"? I'm sure there's an obvious explanation that escapes me. Please advise.

tap there with a hammer. it's probably undercut enough so the hole will drop out if needed.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

Yup, just don't whale away at it. Tap means just that - tap. A few gentle taps right in that area and the plug should crack and pop right out.

I'm wondering if you can return it for the one you want. At this point if you tap it and it breaks, your out of a counter top and the money. Plus you will have to buy another one.

It's a deliberate thing to accommodate different faucet styles in a stock top. The hole is cut almost all the way through, leaving only a thin skin on top in place. Just tap it gently and it will 'break' exactly where it is supposed to.
