I have been considering getting solar panels after reading a few articles like this one which is pretty convincing http://www.enviko.com/news/eve...-buying-solar-panels
Does anyone have any interesting facts which might balance the argument?
no,,,,,i am also considering panels, to recharge batteries used to power electric fence for the garden
personal PV solar energy is a small-user technology due to cost. our ham radio club had a lecture the other month on it, and the core of the system is big truckin' batteries, like forklift batteries, for storage. they are not cheap, generate hydrogen on the charge cycle, and pose some avid leakage issues as well.
there are deals at some online sellers on closeout/discontinued/overstock panels, and that's the way to buy them. panels are basically a commodity item from China now, and you'll pay double for a brand from a dealer. your local fire codes may well require special disconnects, and due to the high amperage on a sunny day, they are not cheap.
for point service, like traffic warnings, PV solar is competitive. for whole-home service, making energy by massaging blocks of Unobtainium is probably a better deal.
sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?
