I have a section of soffit, approximately 8 feet long, that has pulled out of my mortar. The strip that is attached to the house (not sure the name) which the soffit slides into has come loose and the soffit is falling down. The strip is attached with screws and plastic anchors drilled into the mortar between the bricks. The holes have enlarged and I'm afraid if I just move the location of the holes to new mortar joints it will happen again. So, I am considering plugging the holes with hydraulic cement then redrilling the cement plug to accept a smaller screw and maybe even adding a few more screws to it. Anyone have any thoughts on my idea or possibly a better one. Thanks!

Normally there is a "J" channel used which is attached to the framing (bottom of rafter) and not to the wall itself. But I have seen it done that way with a piece of "F" channel.

There should have never been plastic anchors used. I would not place the screws in the same location. You can fill in the holes but I would move a few inches either way and attach. Instead of screws and anchors you might consider using small "tapcon" screws which will hold better and do not require anchors. Most of the big box store carry them in an assortment of sizes. For you application you probably would not need more than 3/16" X 1-1/4". Get the hexhead type and corresponding nutdriver to use. The box of screws will tell you what size mason bit to buy. Sometimes they put on in the box of screws but I would pick up an extra.
