Our halide was built in the fifties. I have remodeled a lot myself. New dry wall per got flooring tileFloors . Recently finished a three season porch and remodeled into a play room for the girls. My problem is that with all the Improvemnets and updating brighter lighting , we still have the old metal door frames. With many many explicits , I hate them! With a passion! There is no character. Anything that makes them stand out. With a moderate knowledge of remodeling how hard would it be to replace them. My neighbor replaced his but at the time of moving in he had the whole house gutted. Floors everything . Is it impossible to remove without taking up flooring?

Exterior doors have a threshold - finish flooring butts up against this threshold. Still, you can replace both the door and the frame - worst case is you will have to trim the flooring a little or add a trim piece to cover a gap - but only if the new threshold is a different dimension from the old.
Interior doors have no threshold and pose no problem.
