When drilling through brick, am I more likely to get a cleaner, more accurately-sized hole, with less chance of splitting, if I drill at slower speed in rotary mode vs. higher speed in hammer mode?

do not drill in hammer mode when drilling masonary
the viberation, hammering action will "bust out"
the back of the hole as the bit nears the end
causing a golf ball size dimple in the block/brick
i use a titanium mason bit
the ideal place to drill is in the grout joint and not the brick itself Big Grin

You will find that everyone does things differently.

I use hammer mode with a steady pressure and a moderate to high speed. It takes a little practice to 'feel' what's going on as you drill, but with the correct pressure you can avoid blowing out the back side of the brick. While it's usually easier to drill through the mortar compared to the brick itself, there are times that the mortar is not solid so you will not have enough to anchor to.

All this will vary depending on what type of brick you have and how it was installed.
