I recently moved to a home in Wisconsin, near Michigan on Green Bay that is on well water. We have a water softener and the test strips show the water is soft but it is YELLOW. It is yellow in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry. The house was empty for a little bit before we moved in but we have lived here for almost 5 weeks, no change in color. Can anyone give me any idea on what to do or what the problem may be.

Since you're new to the house it will be a good idea to know about your water from thle well. A thorough water analysis will be good to have on hand. As you can see there will be varying opininons on the color and dirt in the water. Any one of these opinions will be right somewhere, sometime. You need to know about your water. The water softener is a good idea but is it working as it should? Do you have the full instructions and helpful hints about your system? The dirty water may be from any of a number of sources. Generally each source and sediment requires a particular approach to remove it. Check with the County Sanitarian. I'm sure that there is a good and reliable test process that won't cost a huge amount. My former county and my present county will do a basic analysis for nothing. The test should show bacteria content, sediment, gasses, and dissolved minerals such as lime and iron. Sulfer can also be present.
