        Hi DIY Community

I am stripping some old caulk out of my window so I can re-caulk it but in the process I am scratching the hell out of the aluminum and vinyl siding around the window. The caulk is so old that it has turned black, lost it’s elasticity and it is chipping out in very small pieces. In some cases I am using a razor blade to scrape it out. That being said, it looks like hell. I can get it out but I can’t clean it all up.

Can I just sand the aluminum/vinyl siding to get the rest of it, then paint the ugly spots with matching paint?

Or does anyone have a better idea.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can paint the aluminum, but spot painting it with "matching" paint is never going to happen.
