According to the Department of Energy, a programmable thermostat can reduce your heating costs by up to 35% and cooling costs by up to 25%. If your home sits empty a good part of each day, consider investing in a programmable thermostat or manually adjust the temperature each time you leave and return home. Close curtains on south- and west-facing windows during the day. 1*Plant tall, fast growth trees on the south side of home. 2*Use white window shades, or blinds to reflect heat form home. 3* You can ensure your system operates at full capacity. An yearly checking of your cooling system may increase the life of your AC and save you money. 4*Replace standard incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). 5*Unplug electronics, battery chargers and other equipment when not in use. 6*keeping windows and doors shut and closing shades during the day. 7*Run your dishwasher and clothes washer only when fully loaded. Great tips. Let's add some more: Place electric fan near an open window at night. It'll give off much cooler air. Use natural lighting. Open curtains and shades in daytime. Clean and/or repair filters. Dirty ones make your appliances work more use more energy. Insulate water pipes specially if they are exposed. Close all windows and doors when using the air conditioner. It will keep the cold air from going out and makes the room cooler, longer. It would be great if you have more tips to share I'm a drywaller not a plumber. Leave it to me, most kitchen repair jobs should be left to the pros.

Another good option would be to use alternative energy. I was moved by this post. They follow some rules in their community that contributes to energy reduction for our world. Just imagine how much energy we can save if we can have alternative source of energy. This can be a little investment on our end but I am sure it is worth it and it will be worth it for the future generations.

Ellena and Amanda are frequent spammers here. The main purpose is to get you to click on their links. General Disclaimer Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance. My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
