I am preparing to lay ceramic tile and I have a vinyl tile down now! I have been told you can lay ceramic tile over the vinyl, but I am hesitant to do so.If I decide to remove the vinyl, how is the best way to do it,I've got concrete floors. Thank You,Tom

You cannot lay ceramic tile on top of the vinyl tile. (Well, actually cou could, but you new tile would not have a prayer of staying in place for long) Smile

Invest in a tile scraper - it's a tool like a short-handled shovel that has a 6" wide heavy-duty scraper blade on the end. Makes quick work of most tiles. Should run under $20 at any home store and is well worth it.

Once your vinyl tiles are gone your concrete floor makes an excellent surface for the new ceramic tile. Depending on how the vinyl tiles were attached, you may have to scrape any thicker glue residue.

hey, frodo, if they don't come up, soften the glue with a little mineral spirits.

there is also a soy-based glue remover on the market that is not stinky and worth trying.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

The word is SCRAPE, not scrap. Cool
Try a hand held HAIR DRYER on medium heat.

Place dry ice on the tiles for 15 minutes; they will be removed with ease.

Everyone, including me, makes mistakes from time to time in spelling. But when misspelled, words can take on an entirely different meaning. That is when I like to point the mistake out to the typist.
There is a big difference in the meaning of "scrap" and "scrapping" to the words "scrape and "scraping.
