How could I come across some of the deals that Nicole gets on her show? I think she says she gets her homes for a dollar.

        Go to Detroit.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

That is a high price to pay for a $1 house.

Back when my wife was pregnant with our oldest a Director at my company asked me to take a sales support job in MI. The position was somewhat appealing but I told him for me to take it, I'd have to get a divorce. And divorcing a pregnant woman is the definition of a sm-ck.

If the job was in Detroit, I'd understand your position. But there are very nice areas in the rest of the state, especially in North Oakland County.

Unfortunately so many people think of Detroit whenever the word Michigan is mentioned, or they think of a rust-bucket state.

I think it was just the one house that she purchased for a dollar.

If you're serious about getting into this, line up some capital and contractors. You'll need some carrying cash while the projects are in process.

If you don't have a lot of DIY experience, volunteer to work on Habitat for Humanity houses to help you become knowledgeable in the field.

I would do that before even considering advancing money on a rehab house.
