Hi I recently tried to get info on the proposed new show I Hate My Yard based in Los Angeles but not having success with the email address:ihatemyyardcasting@gmail.com...anyone have any info? Also is this the right board to ask if anyone knows how trade professionals get cast on any DIY show. Thanks, Liz3

there is no such board I can think of several ways somebody could land a show. one, there are periodically contests of the "America's top handyman" type on HGTV, in which the winner gets a shot. of course, you have to get there to start with. which brings up method two, watch "be on DIY' space on the homepage for casting calls. you will have to send in an audition tape, your skills, what contractor license(s) you have (since they are generally required for street cred) and while many may apply, few get the first call, and fewer still the second call from a producer. the third way is to ally with a production house and submit a demo show cold to a network. rare, but it can work. the best odds are method #2. I have no current ties to broadcasting at any level, but I used to, so I know the drill when I see the calls and contests. sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

If by being cast on a DIY show you mean if you would like to be one of the trades people who are doing the actual work - providing materials and labor to actually get the project done then it's really very easy: Take the show you are interested in and find out the name of the production company that produced it. Contact them and let them know what your skills are and that you would like to be a part of a show. Trust me, they will be glad to talk to you. Jaybee
