Hubby and I had a fun day trip for my birthday to a neighboring old little town. We dont do presents so much, we try to do something special together for the day. So I had free bkfast @ Denny's, then we walked all around the quaint town, went to the Civil War train depot (or what's left of it anyway), then visited a civil war era house/museum and afterwardshad a late lunch at a local steakhouse on our way back. A fun day that I wanted to commemorate with an actual 8x8 layout. (Products are mostly freebies from the Internet, but if anything jumps at you & you want to know ask and I'll try to locate it.)

Love the LO. I have never taken a picture of restaurant food, but I guess that is a memory too. Also it would document the day as my memory gets shorter and fuzzier. TFS!

I have never done any digital scraping but it looks as if everything is going that way so I better learn it or I am going to be completly left behind. Can you give me some good websites I can use and any u tube videos to show me how would be great. After I get caught up here I am going to start seeing what I can google.

To Marie Fair: - I think you're on the right track: google 'photoshop tutorials', also do a search on YouTube for the same. There is A LOT available these days (some free, some as a class if you want). I am very far removed from any "learning" aspect as I've been using Photoshop since '97 ... so I dont keep track of learning sites. But I purchase digital prods from a few websites and I know one such that has a video tutorial for getting started with PSElements right on the homepage, here:

If you want to take a class, check the Online Classes at http://www.jessicasprague.com/ and the University tab at Scrap Girls (http://www.scrapgirls.com/SG_University_main.htm. These are well-respected websites. You might also want to check at your local college and see if they have a week-end workshop - some do and that could be just the thing, it's intense, but it forces you to get started.

I do a lot of my scrapping now in 4x6 format and place in my scrapbook/diary/journal thingy. My style now tends more towards the Simple Scrapbooking of Cathy Zielske and Ali Edwards, a combination of ProjectLife and art journal all in one. I still do some more elaborate (digital) layouts for my mother's scrapbook (which I now print as little 8x8 books) but mostly I find that my simple 4x6 with some text thrown in work very well for the kind of recordkeeping I do. Most of the journaling goes on the pages of the "thingy" and since my "scrapbooking" is for me only, this works very well.

Vianna, do you add any embellihments after you print out your scarp page? do you digitally your cards. I have also thought about digital scrapping.

Vianna... great as usual! lol I don't do digital but... I'm so behind and worried that I won't get the grand's birthing shots done that I'm doing them in a book form from snapfish so I can just do the shots I want by paper and not have to worry about getting them all done! lol

I'm with u Clarinda my gbaby is two weeks oks & u would think the paparazzi had been around there r so many pics & she has already taken him to have professional shots done. I am never going to get caught up.

To Shirl505: Yes, I do ad conventional embellishments most of the time - and they dont have to be elaborate. You can use store bought ones or make them yourself (digitally or not). A little ribbon, a button here and there, maybe a flower, a sticker - it depends on how much dimension you like, or for that matter, how much dimension the particular album can tolerate. I attach a photo of some pages in Mia's first album. I used a standard photo album from Wallmart designed to take 4x6 photos with an additional little space on every page for comments. Once you remove the plastic celophane you turn it into a scrapbook album with possibilities because now each page becomes a 4.5x8 surface to build on. On some pages I used a 4x6 photo "as is" (that is, as I digitally designed it in PSE), on other pages I cut up the photos. Many pages have embellishments of some sort too. When I design on a 4x6 surface I can place images of various sizes, thus use more of my photos. I cut up those images & then individually glue them onto the page. There are many 2x2 photos in my albums (they are perfect, because 6 of them fit perfectly onto a 4x6 photo paper which I print at Sam's Club for ten cents each. And it's so economical too! So you have to experiment a little & see what works for you. I have designed a number of 4x6 templates for myself so the creation process moves pretty fast now.

But there is NOTHING WRONG with getting books done at Snapfish if you want to quickly make albums that include a hundred photos from one event (like a baby's birth) and that maybe you might even want to make duplicates of. I have said this many times: make it work FOR YOU. We all have different tastes and a finite amount of time we can dedicate to the process - ultimately only you know what will work for you. The important thing is to do something about all your photos and the stories you want to tell.

Here are a few other pages from Mia's Digital/conventional scrapbook; I thought you might find it helpful to see my approach to this type of HYBRID scrapbooking where both digital and conventional methods are used.

The square photos are 2x2. I placed six photos on a 4x6 in Photoshop (I created a template for this), then printed at Sam's Club & cut them out. I also printed my own printed paper background on regular bond paper and cut to fit the album page before gluing the photos and some embellishments.

"Outfitting Mia" border with text was created in Photoshop to fit my page dimensions then printed on white cardstock. After I cut & pasted the cardstock to the album page I glued the photos to it and
some arrow diecuts with bows. I also placed some text and borders directly on the photos. Easy peesy, really!
The film strip has 3 photos. I created it in Photoshop to the dimensions I needed to fit on my album page, then I printed it as a 4x6 and cut it out. Some embellishments (and a photo or two) are attached with dimensional foam. And some photos, where the color really clashed I turned to black and white (or just desaturated a bit). There many little touches you can apply thru simple Photoshop processes. I hope this inspires you to want to learn more about it.

Yes, some of us "old timers" still hang around ... but you're right: it's nothing like it once was. Except for Scrap-Soup, there are no TV shows for scrapbooking & cardmaking, and only two or three paper magazines are still in circulation now. It seems these days info and inspiration is found on the internet, at blogs and various other website Forums. Sandi Genovese still does her weekly web show ... But everything changes - and it's OK, if only it weren't happening at such fast rate. I found my own way of scrapping Daily Life, a cross between Project Life and my love for digital scrapbooking. I digitally embellish my 4x6 photos in Photoshop before printing, then place them in my hand-made albums, where I do the journaling and tell the detailed story, and also do a bit more conventional embellishing. It's no "fancy" scrapbook with tons of product and worthy of publishing, but it works for me. I continue to maintain that scrapbooking IS NOT a competitive sport and you should do what works for you, within your limits of time energy and financial abilities. But do tell the story of YOUR life, and your children's lives - the good and the bad, the big events and the daily banalities, scrap what people say, or how you feel about one thing or another.
If you have years' worth of pictures of your child, just pick a few and tell a story that goes with them instead of trying to do it all chronologically. You can always do the crhono thing from this moment on, while incorporating the old photos and stories right along side. Do a little daily, if you can, or even once a week--the important thing still remaing DOING IT. And if you feel like sharing ... you can do it here, or at Start A Scrapbook board where most of the old DIY members congregate now. Good luck!

Vianna, so sorry I have not replyed on this. I used to try to get real fancy with my pages but my money would not streach that far so now I use what I have. And I don't scrap chronologically. I so agree with you that this is not a sport and I stopped trying to be like everyone else and just be Me, well Me, Myself and I, Thank you, you are my Angel of the day.
