I love my Cricut machine so much that I gave my DIL one for her b'day. She bought the program disk (Design Studio)and installed it on her laptop. Her laptop crashed and she sent it in to be repaired. When she got it back, she tried to install the Cricut program again, and it came up 'allready installed on another computer'.

She called them and after an hour of explaining and arguing they finally gave her a password so she could reinstall the program.

This is totally outrageous! Even Microsoft, the most protected software in the universe (which I agree with) lets you install the program on more than one computer ( I just bought MS Office 2007 for $95 and it says I can install it on 3 computers).

Most of us have 2 computers, a desk top and a lap top and even if we only have one, it will crash eventually, or need to be up graded, etc, so when we pay $99 (over $100 if you have to pay sales tax) for a program that is not nearly as extensive as MS we should be able to put it on more than 1 computer.

However, Cricut Design Studio(DS) (MSRP $99.95) will only let you put it one 1 computer, 1 time.
During the conversation with Provo Craft, the assistant said they have had complaints and if they received enough complaints, they would probably change their policy.

So, I am urging you all to call (877-727-4288)or contact them at www.cricut.com and complain. Either lower the price, so we can buy 2 copies or let me put it on both my desk top AND my lap top. I will not buy the program until they do. Meanwhile, I will just go to my DIL's and use her computer.

Thank you for your support.

I agree. A computer failure is usually beyond our control and it is unfair to not be able to reinstall it.

I do wish tey would change the policy so you can put it on each of your own computers. We only have one now but plan to get another one in the future.

I agree here. I've boughten the Pooh Font and can't put it on my Favorites because it's not listed. So I can't use it with the Design Studio and that makes it to where I don't want to buy any of the other new ones they are bring out. I did send them an email though on this issue as well as the one of not being able to instal more than once. So we'll see what their response is.

I've never purchased the design studio as I couldn't really understand the program. You have to have the disk inorder to use the design studio, is that correct? Can someone explain to me this design studio? Sure glad I didn't buy one now as we travel in the winter and I would want to have it on my lap top but at home on my desk top computer. Guess that is one purchase I won't be making now. Thanks for the information on that.

Good luck with the email thing - I sent them one over a month ago and then a follow up and have yet to receive an answer.

You can download a free trial version, but you can only use the cartriges that came with your Cricut - eg: If you have the Expression, you can use Accent Essentials and Plantain Schoolbook, if you have the Personal, you can only use Georgie. The program is very easy to use. I have no problem with the program, I think it's great, but their policy is not very friendly.

Granny ... I was wondering if this pass word would let you load it onto your computer?? If it does...There will be ways to get around this all over the net.!! Us ladies will have to catch up with the geeks. We just want to do what is right!

I know that there are programs that are pass word protected and cost way more than that and these computer geeks know how to get drivers etc off the net to run on pirated programs.

I also feel after the new wears off and they get the glitches worked out it will be ok. That's why I always wait till we get quite a few reviews before buying.! I found this board 3 years asking about the cutting machines... and 2 years ago bought my WB and love it and don't have to buy more carts for it. I mostly wanted it for Alphas... but got so much more for free! They now have 12 inch cutters but mine does what I need and so much more! Just need more time.

Hope everything works out ok for you!

Clarinda

Cricut has message boards that I have yet to figure out how to use. But if you can figure out how to post a message there I bet alot of people would jump in echoing your sentiments. That would get a lot of opinions to them quickly.
