We're building a new house and I'm lucky enough to be able to have a scrapbooking room! I'm so excited! But, I need some ideas of how to decorate, what table/chair would work best, etc. (If you have photos of rooms or know of where I can look...that would be great too!) I've always had to lug my stuff from place to place and having to clean-up after I was finished for the day...it's going to be so nice to have my own space. Big Grin

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thats awesome,,I have one also,,,,just about live in it! I like having a counter for all my supplies and a nice one to do layouts on,I like having a small trash bin at the surface to help keep it somewhat clean and organized.I personally have a basket holder made from wrought iron,,that now serves as my scissor holders! I use the containers at Michales or Hobby Lobby that are 12x12 in size to store papers and scraps too.Just add your personal touch too, mine has a sunflower border to it and a writing on the wall that say"Scrapbooking is cheaper than a therapist"! LOL

Oh, you are going to really enjoy your space. I was in your same shoes at one time and now I have my own room and just love it. The layout of your room is perhaps the most important. I had a great big room and I moved out of it and back into my smaller room. I am much more organized but I do miss having a long table for just my work space. I only have to walk out the door and I have a long counter top with sink to work at so not that bad. Do have lots of cupboards or shelf space if you don't mind all your stuff showing. I have two white cupboards with doors. One cupboard is at one end of one wall and the other at the other end. My DH placed a long white board clear across the top where I placed my 12x12 bins and all my photo albums. Then I have a desk that fits right between the two of them. (Don't know how we lucked out on the size of that desk we had) LOL. But on the desk top I have my cricut machine and work space. I have another desk with many drawers on the other wall with my computer. The next wall has many tall bins with my embellishments, etc. On the wall above them my DH built me a paper holder for 12x12 paper with 36 slots. On the last wall I have a tall table to stand at or I can sit on a stool. It fold out to a long table or folds up to a smaller size. I also have a round bin from Pampered Chef that holds many of my scissors, pencils, pens, rulers, embossing tools, etc...It holds a lot. I also have a closet to put way to much stuff into. It seems the larger the room the more you fill it. LOL
Don't know if this is of any help to you.

Soozaay..Hi and welcome to the board. I'm sure you'll get some great ideas here. We're having an on line crop starting Friday night through Sunday evening...maybe if your not busy you can join in with us. We'd love to have ya.

Wow Donna that sounds great. Are you going to post some pictures??

I have a room since my ds got married. I love it but it does seem to get clutter from around the house dumped in it. It also looks like my mom might be coming to stay the winter with us so... I'll have to move my room to the corner of the front room... we don't use that area much. I'm hoping to get everything sorted when I move the stuff. My room is a mess but I can load the pictures from when I first started setting it up...lol. Does that count??

I have some rubbermaid drawers that are 12x12 and I have categories in them.... football, fall, Christmas, cards, baby, school etc. Now in these I put everything... paper, embellishments, so when I want to work on that item I can pull a drawer.! This works good for me.

The thing that doesn't work good for me is I collect too much stuff when we go some where. I'm going to go through fliers, postcards, etc, and put them in a file with vacation and year. I'm going to do away with all that I don't think I'll put on a page. I have too much stuff like that and they are in a bag of something I bought! I think in a file and in a file box would help. Oh and another thing that doesn't work for me. I have work top space... dh made me a 3 ft. by 6 or 7 ft long counter to come off a old desk...but it seem to get too many tools on it. Have a station for tools then put them back. I'm going to reorganize mine and do that.

I think you need to first decide if you are a visual person... for the most part I am.! If it's out of sight out of mind. Buy your storage according to that... if you need to see it go for glass canisters... for buttons and ribbons this also makes it look great. I'm fine with my ribbon in boxes i know where they are and they are in pretty good order. I want my paper out where I can see and flip through easily.

Ok... I think that all...lol. Can you tell I've been thinking about what to do!

Can't wait to see your room be sure and post some pictures.

Clarinda

Well, I can't add much to these awesome answers, except to say congratulations. That is awesome! I too just have a space in our living room. Ah, a dream of a scrap room. But I know one day I will have one. Just trying to patiently wait my turn, but it sure is hard! LOL. Please post pix when you get it all done! Smile

You can take the belle out of the south, but you can't take the south out of the belle!

I live life, I laugh often, I love to scrapbook!

How exciting to design your space from scratch.

Creating Keepsakes has a DVD collection where from time to time they feature some of their main designers. Their rooms and styles are different in many ways but that's a good sorces to check out.

These are the questions I would ask myself.
1. What's my budget. That would determine the amount of cupboards, counter space, and shelving.

2. What type of scrapper are you? Do you sit or stand?

3. Will others be joining you in your scraproom?

4. Do you go to crops often or are you more a stay at home scrapper.

5. Do you like everything ready at a glance, stashed away or combination of both.

A suggestion I have from these questions is with # 4. If you go to crops organize your room in a way that packing up is easy for you. Make sure things are portable and will travel to crops well. Choose your storage with this in mind.

I would say go to kitchen stores and check out cabinets, counter tops, desks, chairs etc. I was in the same boat you were in so I didn't know what "features" I liked and what worked best for me until I got my own space.

I have one wall that's all shelves. Love the fact that I have two electrical outlet on either side of the wall mid way up. That gives me options for the DVD player I have or my radio.

I like to crop with my supplies in front of me so I need a very deep table and like one with the shelf that pulls out (like a computer desk). I can't nail anything in my walls so I have to go vertical in my desk top storage. Clear stackable paper trays work great for me. If I put stuff in drawers I foret I have it so I have to have all my stuff out and visable. So I label everything.

Thanks

Jane

Susie...I'm a Chicago girl as well. ha I was in the same situation five years ago while we were building our house. My husband knew that there would be one area set aside in the basement for me. If you go to my website that I just put up this past month, you can look at how my office is set up or at least organized. www.letsgetcroppin.com Good luck and have fun with it!

Hi Susie: Just registered for this site and saw your posting! I am in the process of a new craft room myself. I googled craft room and found this site. www.new-memories.com/crafts/decorating I found tons of pictures and printed off the one I like and now a carpenter is building and installing! I can't wait! Good luck! I'm so glad I discovered this site HGTV doesn't have a very good message board regarding scrapbooking. I actually basically do cards and mini photo albums. Good luck!

Hi there sometimes people post pics of their rooms you can search scrap rooms in the search box. Or google scrapbook rooms, scrapping rooms,etc.. Also just to let you know they have some really cool organizational stuff at Orientaltradingcompany.com and Target believe it or not has great stuff too. I purchased some Making Memories stuff at Michael's which are great because you can always use those 40 or 50 percent off coupons! Also you need to make sure you have good lighting on your desk. I also love getting tons of baskets for organization and they look pretty with different liners. Some people also like to model their rooms after a certain paper they love which I think is a great idea you can SCRAP YOUR OWN ROOM! lol. Have fun and take care!

Love to scrap for baby Grayson!
