I haven't been on this board for quite a long time, but hope to be able to check in more often. I have missed the helpful hints and good ideas of this group.
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but does anyone have a suggestion for a good digital camera to buy? I have a Kodak Easyshare DX4530 and am not as satisfied with the pictures as I used to be. I would like something more advanced, but not too complicated. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I get totally confused when I start looking at them in the store. Thanks!

Thanks scrappin 4 fun. I'll take a look at it. Don't have a Costco nearby, just BJ's,Walmart & K Mart. Small town, but we're about 1 1/2 hr from Buffalo, NY. so could look there. I miss all of the great shots of my grandkids because they don't sit still or keep doing the same thing long enough. By the time I push the button, they've moved or looked away or something.

If you're that close to Buffalo, check out the outlet malls too. If I remember correctly, the one(s) near the bridge have a couple of electronic shops.

I'm a point and shoot girl myself, I've never taken my camera off of auto Big Grin

If you would like I can post some pictures that I have taken with my camera that way you can get an idea of what the quality is like.

Hi Trish. Just curious. Where in NY do you live? My sister lives in North Tonawanda and my Mom is from Lockport. I love the area with so many of the old beautiful farm houses. Thanks, Cheryl

MVC - Good Idea. Will check those out when I head up in that direction soon. I use mine mostly on auto, too.

scrapin 4 fun - It would be great if you would post some pics. How complicated is it to use? My niece has that name brand, but I'm not sure what model.

Gamma2Two - I live about 80 miles south of Buffalo. Closer to the PA border. There are alot of beautiful old farmhouses in this area. Actually, dh & I bought our's about 35 years ago when it had been empty & unloved for a few years. Hate to see that happen to houses.

The d80 is super easy to use. Point and click. Another great camera is the cannon power shot. Its lot less money yet you still get great pictures. I will post some pictures later on today.

For the money, I have found no better than the Fuji Pix cameras at Wallmart - only around $100, aim&shoot digital, great lenses.
Now if you want to go up a notch, look at the Digital SLR's - more money, but more features, however I would only recommend the digital SLR option to someone that has experience under the belt with standard SLR's - or at least, with the caveat that "there is a learning curve". Some stores offer courses though (Ritz camera?) so you may want to consider, as this will be The Future of photography.
Personally I have a Cannon Rebel XTI (digital) and love it (but this is only my personal opinion, and I know what I can do with it).

Good luck!

Vianna - Thanks for the info. I have no experience with any SLR's. Would be willing to work at it to learn, but am short on time right now. Too many other things taking up my time. Need something more advanced than my Kodak Easyshare, but not too advanced. Will need to be able to feel comfortable using the new camera before vacation to Florida in August. So far, Canon seems the brand I will check out first.

If you are looking into Cannon's (my own favorite brand) then start by looking at their PowerShot line of point & shoot digital cameras. They are reasonably priced and easy to use (I have an older model of those as well). You'll have no problem learning how to use it by August.
By the way, August is ungodly hot and humid in Florida (I live near Clearwater) so be sure to stay well hydrated and wear a hat.

Vianna - I know Florida will be hot & humid next month. Looking forward to the trip, but not the heat. I'm sure my husband will want to be in rental most of time with A/C to keep cool. Couldn't help the time, coordinating with other family members to share accomodations. I'm sure I'll enjoy my 4 yr old granddaughter's first trip to meet Cinderella at Disney. It is all she talks about and I want to make her a special Florida vacation scrapbook. I'll be checking out the Cannons in Buffalo or Erie, Pa soon. Thanks.
