I recently moved to a home in Wisconsin, near Michigan on Green Bay that is on well water. We have a water softener and the test strips show the water is soft but it is YELLOW. It is yellow in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry. The house was empty for a little bit before we moved in but we have lived here for almost 5 weeks, no change in color. Can anyone give me any idea on what to do or what the problem may be.

The first thing I'd do is to call your local health department and get the water tested.

Yes, you should have your water tested; I beleive the yellow is caused by rust in your water - we also have well water & have a whole house water treatment system that traps the rust before it enters the water that we use so - we must maintain the system in order to maintain a good consistent water quality. This rust will stain your toilets, bathtubs & showers, sinks & clothing - I suggest you check with your local Health Department to see if there is a good water expert in your area who can help you determine how to best treat your water.

We also use a product in our softener called "pro rust out" - we add it to the salt brine.

The system in our house was there when we mmoved in - if I had the money to start from scratch I would investifgate the options availble to me including a reverse osmosis system.

Good luck.
