We recently put a wood plank ceiling in our living room. I would like to put a wood floor down also but Im not sure if I should match the wood ceiling color to the wood flooring. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! Also do I run the flooring in the same direction that the ceiling is? Thanks!

Even if you found a perfect match, it would look different due to different light angles. The basic rule is to not try to match the two surfaces up - instead get a type, size and color planks that will compliment the other. The worst thing you can do is to have it look like you tried to match them up and failed.

Same with direction: Don't worry about it. Run the ceiling planks in the direction that makes sense - usually horizontal and parallel to the ridge. Run the floor planking across the shorter dimension of the room, or whatever looks best with other rooms and furniture. If the ceiling and floor run opposite to each other it's OK.

Thank you! Maybe you can answer another question for me.. I have rough cut lumber on the ceiling in one of my rooms. The lumber dried for about 2 years before we put it up. If I want to put a stain on it should I use wood conditioner on it first? If I dont want to stain the ceiling is there some sort of clear protectant (other than polyurethane) I can put on it to stop it from turning grey?

A wood conditioner or pre-stain will make the stain go on more evenly. To seal the surface, I'd go with a water based poly. It will go on clear and stay clear without yellowing.
