What do I use in between Vinyl Squares that are spaced similar to ceramic tiles?Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
When I bought 18" vinyl floor squares the dealer said I would be able to space them and grout them. They are so thin I'm afraid the grout will just crack though. Could I use a self settling concrete patch, skim coating or ???????? They are spaced 1/4 apart and only measure about 1/8 inch thick. Thanks for any help and ideas.

He told you wrong, never going to work. If the floors already glued down it's trash. joecaption

if they are glued down, you might be able to salvage them by using colored caulk in the gaps. on second thought, caulk doesn't stand up to wear, you will end up tracking it all over some weeks or months later. never mind. I'd at least protest loud and long with the store manager and try to get your money back at least. get that salesperson off the floor and back on the loading dock until they stay awake in the morning walk-through on how to sell and install the stuff. sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

[QUOTE]Originally posted by sewolfe: They are so thin I'm afraid the grout will just crack though. QUOTE] Not only are these tiles thin but they eventually mold to whatever's underneath, if it's not flat and if they're like the ones with which I'm familiar. The prior owners of my sister's house laid down vinyl tiles directly over ceramic tile with 1" squares. The vinyl eventually molded over the ceramic tile to the point that you could easily see the form of the 1" squares underneath. That stuff was also very thin and scuffed and damaged easily. I never did figure out to repair it. I can't even imagine removing it. Fortunately the house is no longer our problem.

I got this "pre mixed vinyl tile grout by Blue Hawk" that works like a skim coat and caulking mix so it doesnt crumble into dust and made to be on very thin. This message has been edited. Last edited by: sewolfe,
